9SepTYPO3: Staying up-to-date
Posted on September 9, 2010 in TYPO3 byAs TYPO3 is a project which is very actively developed, it's sometimes hard to keep track of all the changes. Especially because there are quite some channels over which information is spread. In this article I will show you how I keep an eye on TYPO3.
I will start directly with my favorite, Twitter. This service is great for sharing short messages. Often, this is the first place news get's posted to. It' also a nice spot to discover new tricks, tips and blogs. Occasionally you might also see some questions come by every now and then.
Since these messages are short, and to the point, this is a great source of information. Tags you could consider watching are #TYPO3 and #TypoScript. Whenever there is an event there is usually a special hash tag for that as well. For example #T3CON10 for the TYPO3 Conference 2010.
To have an impression what is tweeted about TYPO3, you may want to take a look at the following:

TYPO3.org
The number one source for official TYPO3 news is of course still TYPO3.org. News, updates and security bulletins are posted here first. Instead of visiting the website every day for several times, you should consider using an RSS reader to read the news feed.
There are several sections of news available on TYPO3.org. Active sections are: community, development, association and security. An overview of all available feeds can be found here:

Mailing lists
The mailing lists are also a great place for finding news and information. Again there are several topics that are handled here. But this is a very rich source of information for all loving their favorite Open Source Enterprise CMS.
If you are interested in what goes on behind the scenes, you could check out the core mailing lists. For more general news you can check out the English mailing list. And if your local usergroup has it's own list, you could check that as well.
My suggestion is to sign-up only for the ones you are really interested in. The reason for that is that some of the mailing lists are very actively used. If most of the information is irrelevant for you, you might catch yourself spending lots of valuable time scanning through e-mails.
Look here for an overview of all the available mailing lists:

IRC
Another great place to see important updates shoot by is IRC. Yes, the TYPO3 IRC channel is pretty active again. It's also a great place to help and be helped.
The official TYPO3 channel can be found on the Freenode servers.
#typo3If you are interested in what's being discussed on the TYPO3 channels, you can check Ries van Twisk's website. An IRC log is being tracked there.

Just my sources
These are just my sources of course. If you have any of your own you would like to share, feel free to post them in a comment.
